Phobias, Fears and Panic Attacks

There are complex phobias such as the fear of open spaces (Agoraphobia) and fear of social situations and being judged (Social Phobias) and then there are specific phobias such as Injury (blood, needles, dental procedures), Animals (spiders, snakes, mice, insects), Environmental (darkness, heights, thunderstorms), Health Related (germs, illness), and Situations (enclosed spaces, lifts).

Phobias are often caused by an intense feeling of terror experienced when you were younger, becoming detached from the stimulus of that terror, and those feelings can attach to another object or situation.

A person will avoid the situation or object which brings these feelings, and when they avoid it, they do not suffer the feelings of anxiety, this only serves to re-enforce the link between the situation or the object, and the fear.

Fear is when our body is preparing itself to either fight the source of the danger, or escape from when we feel when we are in the presence of a real and present danger.

Panic Attacks are defined as a period of intense fear, accompanied by a series of psychological or bodily symptoms. Difficulty in breathing, or shortness of breath (Dyspnoea), Chest tightness, Chest pain, Abnormally rapid heartbeat (Tachycardia), Excessive sweating (Hyperhydrosis), Raised blood pressure (Hypertension), a Fear of Death or that Something Terrible is Going to Happen are all symptoms of a Panic Attack or an Anxiety Attack. A panic attack can happen completely for little or no apparent reason and everyone gets anxious from time to time and this is perfectly normal, but when a panic attack strikes, it feels anything but normal.

A hypnotherapist can change the way a person feels about things by working on the subconscious part of the mind where we have stored emotions that affects the way we think and behave. because they have emotions hidden away in their mind that has become detached from the original cause of that emotion. Hypnotherapy sets out to release that emotion, so that it can no longer influence those fears.
